On 25th June 2017, our President Dougie sadly passed away.

He was 96 years old.

 

Here are just a few brief notes about our late President:-
 

From 1950 onwards he was a Town Councillor for more than 30 years
Between 1974/5 he was also our elected Mayor.

 

As far as Scouting is concerned:-

He joined the Scout Movement at the age of eight, he started in Cubs at 1st Tolworth, then moved to 1st Surbiton and then to 2nd Tolworth
During World War 2 he helped to run Rover Scout Crews overseas
Between 1982-1996 he was Chairman of Surbiton District Scouts
In 1988 he was awarded the Scouting Medal of Merit
He was made Vice President of Surbiton and Royal Kingston Scout Districts and he donated several trophies to local Scouting.


He became a JP and was active on the Kingston Bench for many years
He was awarded the MBE
He was Chairman of Kingston Pensioner's Forum
He was an active Rotarian for many years

He was a member of the RAF association
He was President of the Friends of Richmond Park
He worked on the railways for many years and was a real railway enthusiast
Finally, he was, as you all know, President of Surbiton Probus Club

 

Dougie led a very full and active life, spending the majority of it in community service, caring about and helping all sorts of people in all areas of his Ward.

We will miss him greatly.
